Olive harvest in the widespread olive grove of Ispra and its surroundings

Also on Lake Maggiore, in the widespread olive grove of Ispra (VA) and in the neighboring municipalities, the olive harvest will take place between Saturday 4 and Monday 6 October, only in the morning hours (with the exception of Monday, as shown in the attached poster).

The initiative aims to save olives not attacked by the oil fly, which has caused a lot of damage this year.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Agricultural Institute “Cavallini di Silvio” of Lesa, in the province of Novara, it will still be possible to arrive at a quantity of harvest that allows the production of a certain quantity of extra virgin olive oil.

The strength of the widespread olive grove lies in the involvement of the community: citizens, members and non-members of the Ispra and Terre del Verbano Oil Association will organize themselves independently –or with the help of friends and acquaintances – to harvest the olives in different points of the territory and deliver them to a pre-established place. On the morning of Tuesday 7 October the olives will be taken to the oil mill for processing.

When an entire community gets to work, driven by passion and enthusiasm, the result goes beyond just production: it is an experience of participation, sharing and bond-building.

We do not yet know how many olives will be harvested and how much oil will be produced this year, but the widespread olive grove represents a concrete example of what motivated and visionary citizens can achieve together. It is also proof of the value that extra virgin olive oil has for the area.

2025 could prove to be a difficult year, but the spirit does not die down: the next one will be better and those to come even more, because with each season new olive trees planted by families and citizens will enrich the landscape and leave the planet a precious treasure.
