Four weekends of meetings and films on Landscape and Nature in Ispra

With spring and for four weekends, from April 11th to May 8th, Landscape in Review returns, an event that has now become a regular occurrence in Ispra, where garden and nature experts and enthusiasts gather to discuss landscape, environmentally conscious development, and the well-being of local communities with residents. The relationship between man and nature is the common thread that links the various meetings, not only conferences and debates, but also themed films. With simple and informative language, yet with scientific rigor, supported by practical examples, the meetings bring participants closer to garden care and biodiversity conservation. Recognizing, designing, and caring for gardens and places rich in nature and biodiversity is one way we can all help enhance the unique, yet delicate, territory we live in.

All meetings are open to the public and free to enter.

FIRST APPOINTMENT

Agronomist Raffaele Orrù will open the event on Saturday, April 11th at the Hotel Europa in Ispra. His talk “Lazy in the Flowers” is now a festival custom, much appreciated by participants for practical advice on how to create nature-conscious gardens with more biodiversity and less maintenance. This year Raffaele Orrù will also present a project on a small green area of the town.

SECOND APPOINTMENT

A two-part meeting about trees and their presence in the urban fabric is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at the Hotel Europa in Ispra. Vincenzo Angileri, an agronomist, will share his experience with Paris’s recent green transformation, focusing on urban forests and the interventions implemented to promote sustainable traffic. The functions and importance of trees in the urban context will be illustrated in the “Arboriculture Pills” by agronomist Daniele Zanzi.

THIRD APPOINTMENT

An afternoon dedicated to cinema will take place on Saturday, April 23rd at the Ispra Oratory Theatre, starting at 5:30 pm. “Gilles Clément, The Garden in Motion” is a film by Olivier Compte that focuses on the legendary figure of the innovative and revolutionary “gardener” who, with his approach of complete respect for nature, transformed the way we operate in gardens. The film will also be the occasion to inaugurate the exhibition “Gardens of Resistance”, dedicated to the work of Gilles Clément, which will be held in the centre of Ispra until May 15.

FOURTH APPOINTMENT

The final meeting of the festival, on Saturday 8 May, at the Hotel Europa in Ispra, has butterflies as its theme. Selena Campagnolo will discuss the relevance of butterflies to the ecosystem, especially as pollinators, and present the butterflies that can be encountered in our gardens and countryside.

The entire exhibition is promoted and organised by the European Cultural Association (ACE) of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission and the JRC Garden Club.
